Principal’s Message
“All you need to create something, is to take the first step.”
Firsts are the best because they represent new beginnings and the excitement of what’s to come. Remember how thrilling it was to step into your first classroom, or the anticipation of your first play or sporting event? Each of these firsts marks a new chapter and an opportunity to discover more about yourself and the world around you.
Firsts are indeed powerful and memorable. They often come with a mix of excitement and nervousness, but they also bring a sense of possibility and adventure. This week was full of firsts. For some, it was joining their new class, for others, it was meeting new friends or going to the gym and music room for the first time. Regardless of the first, each of these add to your journey and helps shape who you are.
As you embark on this new school year, we encourage you to embrace each first with enthusiasm and curiosity. They’re all part of the incredible journey of learning and growing. As you talk with your child this weekend, how will you celebrate all the firsts this week had to offer?

Back to School Event – Open House
We would like to invite you to our Open House and Welcome Back Picnic on September 26 from 4:00-7:00pm. This will provide an opportunity for families to meet teachers and visit classrooms. School Council has kindly organized a welcome back picnic in conjunction with this event. Families are welcome to bring a blanket and a picnic, or pre-order dinner from JRRR BBQ through Healthy Hunger. (Please note: JRRR will not be taking orders on that night. You must pre-order). We will also have Mini Donuts, Kona Ice and SugarCubeYYC Food Trucks on site. Please mark your calendars, as we would love to see everyone!
Yearly Online Forms
Each year, schools have a variety of forms that parents / legal guardians are required to complete or review and update, some of which are paper and others online. In CBE, the forms in an online format (SchoolEngage) are:
- Demographic Verification - 2024-25 – This form includes your child’s personal information as well as parent / legal guardian contact information.
 - Citizenship Information Update - 2024-25 – This form becomes available if you change your child’s citizenship information on the Demographic Verification form.
 - Annual Authorization - 2024-25 – Combines the following forms:
 - School District Use of Personal Information - explains how CBE uses personal information in providing education services.
 - Consent for CBE Use of Student Information – provides an option to grant / not grant consent for additional use of student information by school/district and third parties.
 - Consent for Use of Student Information by News Media and Outside Groups (Third Party) - provides an option to grant / not grant consent for additional use of student information by outside groups and third parties

If you have any questions, please contact the school. We thank those families who have already completed Demographic Verification and Annual Authorization forms for their children for the 2024-25 school year.
Volunteering at the School
Volunteers are a valued part of our school community. We welcome volunteers to support us in the classroom, on field trips and with tasks at home or at school. To volunteer with the Calgary Board of Education, adults must have a valid police security clearance and Annual Volunteer Registration. To obtain your police clearance, please first register at the school office.
Yearbooks
Yearbooks have arrived and have been handed out to classroom teachers to send home with students. If you ordered a yearbook and did not receive it, please contact the office.
To make a yearbook successful requires considerable time and we are grateful to our previous parent volunteers for the time they have given to make our yearbook a success. As we look ahead to the 2024-25 yearbook, we need a couple of parent volunteers to oversee this work. Unfortunately, our staff resources are limited, and we are unable to lead the work of yearbook development. This volunteer work can be done entirely offsite and on your own schedule. As a school, we would be happy to support you. If you are interested in taking on this leadership, please contact the school. A yearbook cannot be published without your support.
Traffic Safety
With the start of the school year and with our growing student numbers, we wanted to remind families to practice safe driving habits around the school. Various traffic violations can put our students and families at greater risk of being injured. Safe driving habits help keep our students safe while also being respectful of the residents who have nearby homes. Please adhere to parking signs, including the bus zone, when driving to school. U-turns and jaywalking are unsafe practices, and we ask you to refrain from these. We can all work together to take care of our community and keep it safe.
MyCBE/PowerSchool Account Set Up
Having an active MyCBE/PowerSchool Account is critical for accessing everything from fees to report cards to booking Parent / Teacher Conferences. To access your account or to create an account please go to the Student and Parent / Legal Guardian Sign In page on the CBE website. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school office.
Dates of Significance
The CBE is committed to building a culture of appreciation and inclusion, where students and staff can see themselves valued, respected and celebrated. This calendar identifies some of the significant days of recognition and celebration within the CBE community.

On September 26, from 4:00 – 7:00 PM, the School Council will be hosting a family picnic event alongside our School Open House. More information will be coming home next week regarding this amazing community event. In the meantime, events such as this require several volunteers to help make it successful. Please consider, your availability to volunteer as a sign-up will be coming out next week.
