Principal’s Message

“Kindness is like a seed that when cultivated can grow and grow and grow.”

You have probably heard your child talking about kindness as they have come home these past few weeks. As a school, we will be incorporating the book “Kindness Grows” by Britta Teckentrup into our learning this year. This beautiful book, which highlights the impact of small acts of kindness, will be a cornerstone of our efforts to foster a positive and supportive environment for all students.

We aim to encourage our students to practice empathy, compassion, and generosity in their daily interactions. When we spread kindness through words of encouragement, sharing, caring for others and playing together kindness can grow something beautiful.

The book's engaging story and beautiful illustrations serve as a powerful reminder that even the smallest gestures can make a significant difference.

Teachers will use the book as a springboard for discussions and activities that promote kindness and inclusivity. Students will have opportunities to share their own experiences and ideas about how they can spread kindness. As a school, we will organize events and projects that encourage students to put their newfound understanding of kindness into action. We also encourage you to have discussions with your children about these themes.

We believe that by embracing the message of Kindness Grows, we can create a more caring and connected school community. Thank you for being an essential part of our school community and for helping us make kindness a cornerstone of our students’ experiences. How will you help grow kindness this year?

Instagram

We will be using Instagram to capture and document learning moments in your children’s classes. The intent is to provide families with an opportunity to see what your child has been working on and learning throughout the week. We will take care to share snapshots that will allow your child to speak to the work and will not be sharing student images that include their faces.

Instagram is one of multiple tools we use to communicate. At SKS we use School Messenger for weekly messages from the office and teachers send home class specific information about upcoming events. Additionally, our website is a great place to connect with ongoing activities. Student specific learning is communicated through parent teacher conferences, phone calls, emails, and report cards (January and June). Please reach out to your child's teacher if you have student specific questions regarding your child and their learning.

Please follow along with your teachers and our school Instagram account, sibyllakiddle_cbe, as we document the learning processes and events at Sibylla Kiddle School. This is a great way to have some specifics to talk to your children about when you ask them, “What did you do in school today?”

Back to School Event – Open House

We would like to invite you to our Open House and Welcome Back Picnic on September 26 from 4:00-7:00pm. This will provide an opportunity for families to meet teachers and visit classrooms. School Council has kindly organized a welcome back picnic in conjunction with this event. Families are welcome to bring a blanket and a picnic, or pre-order dinner from JRRR BBQ through Healthy Hunger. (Please note: JRRR will not be taking orders on that night. You must pre-order). We will also have Mini Donuts, Kona Ice and SugarCubeYYC Food Trucks on site. Please mark your calendars, as we would love to see everyone!

Attendance Notifications

If your child(ren) are absent and we have not received notification of their absence, parents will receive an email letting them know about the absence.

As a reminder, parents are asked to call (403-817-3432) or email (sibyllakiddle@cbe.ab.ca) the school when their child(ren) will be absent.

We also appreciate an email or phone call to let us know when your children are not taking the bus. This saves us time when loading the bus at the end of the day.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day Event

CBE staff and their families and friends are invited to attend a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation event. The 4th annual City of Calgary, Calgary Board of Education, and Calgary Catholic School District ceremonial opening of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation & Orange Shirt Day will be held on Monday, Sept. 30 from 9 - 10:30 a.m. at The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland (750 9th Ave. S.E.).

School Council/Parent Society Notes

Last week, the School Council and Fundraising Society had their first meeting. There are many great activities planned for the year. A fall flyer was sent out to families with information about upcoming events.  To receive emails with information related to fundraising opportunities, council events such as dances and fun lunches, families must subscribe to commercial messages. To receive commercial electronic messages on these topics, please subscribe here: https://calgary.schoolmessenger.com/cbe_subscribe

On September 24 from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, there will be a family event held outside the school on the compound that will coincide with the School Open house. Join us for a picnic, dessert food trucks, fun yard games, a photo booth, a scavenger hunt and more! If you can volunteer for this event, please sign-up using this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60B0E4EA9A92EABF58-51051655-back

School Council has set up Healthy Hunger for the school year. You can now log in to your Healthy Hunger accounts to order fun lunches and snacks for the year!  For those new to the school, it's time to create your Healthy Hunger accounts to get started. If you are the parent or caregiver of a Kindergarten student, be sure to only order for the dates your child attends school.

Don't forget, this account is also used for some of the other school fundraisers, such as dances, so even if you're not ordering fun lunches, it's a good idea to set up your account.
