Principal’s Message

“There is always a rainbow at the end of every rain.”

As the raindrops gently tap against our windows and the sky darkens with clouds, it is easy to feel that spring will never come. These past few weeks, we have had to be flexible as we adjust to the ever-changing Calgary weather. However, the wonderful thing about rain is that with it comes green grass and rainbows!

Rainbows, with their vibrant hues stretching across the sky, serve as a poignant metaphor for life's challenges and the moments of joy that follow. They remind us that even amidst the stormiest of times, there is always the potential for something beautiful to emerge.

In the context of our students' lives at school, this analogy holds true as well. Just like how rainbows appear after the rain, moments of growth and success often come after facing difficulties and setbacks. As parents, we play a crucial role in guiding our children through both the rainy days and the moments of sunshine that follow.

Encourage your children to embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, just as the rain nourishes the earth and sets the stage for the appearance of a rainbow. Remind them that setbacks are not failures, but rather stepping stones on the path to success.

Moreover, let's foster a culture of support and resilience within our school community. Just as a rainbow is a collective display of light and color, the achievements of our students are often the result of collaboration and encouragement from peers, teachers, and parents alike.

So, as we witness rainbows painting the sky after the rain, let's also celebrate the resilience and perseverance of our students as they navigate the ups and downs of their educational journey.

Lost and Not-Yet Found

We once again have two overflowing cabinets of lost and not yet found items. Lost items are sorted and displayed. If your child is missing something (notably coats/hoodies), please encourage them to pick them up this week or stop by the school to look for missing items. Before or after school is a good time for parents to have a look through the “lost and not yet found” items.

As a reminder, please label your child(ren)s clothing. When it has a name, we can get it back to its owner. Unclaimed clothing will be packed and donated after the school dance on May 16.

Your Brain on Play: The Science of How Fun Can Fuel Well-Being

"Your Brain on Play: The Science of How Fun Can Fuel Well-Being" , delves into the transformative power of fun and play on health, well-being, and performance. Highlighting research that shows the positive effects of happiness on physical health and productivity, Wells advocates for integrating fun into daily life to foster sustainable high performance.

In Dr. Greg Wells' Blog, he suggests dedicating time to enjoyable activities and incorporating small bursts of joy and playful activities to enhance neurodevelopment and mental health. The blog emphasizes that happiness, a skill that can be cultivated, significantly contributes to a fulfilling life, highlighting that play is not just beneficial for children but crucial for adults' health and professional success. Go have some fun!

Bus Evacuation Drill

On the morning of Friday, May 10, students riding our school buses took part in a bus evacuation drill with the support of our bus service providers and school staff. Like fire drills, bus evacuation drills ensure that students are aware and have practiced the procedures in the event of a bus evacuation. This includes students practicing exiting the bus through the emergency exit at the back of the bus. I want to thank students for following the emergency procedures effectively and efficiently.

School Council/Parent Society Notes

Healthy Hunger
We have noticed that at certain times students are left a little hungry after their fun lunch on Healthy Hunger days. It is a good idea to pack a little extra snack on those days just to ensure your child has enough to eat. The next Healthy Hunger Fun Lunch is Booster Juice. To ensure they have options that day beyond their smoothie, we suggest packing some extra snacks and lunch.
