Principal Update
Sibylla Kiddle School Families,
Throughout February, the YYC Hot Chocolate Fest has been running across our city. Cafés and restaurants are competing for the title of best hot chocolate, with delicious entries ranging from Coconut Cream Pie to Confetti Bliss to Chai’mallow. Have you had a chance to try any?
Thanks to our School Council, we hosted our own hot chocolate event this past Wednesday. It was Pink Shirt Day, and students met with their buddies to connect over a cup of hot chocolate. For a moment, it felt like our own little Sibylla Kiddle Coffee Shop, right in the middle of the forest (our central gathering area). The atmosphere was relaxed, and students were genuinely engaged in conversation. I overheard discussions about favourite games, hobbies, and what it’s like to live in a different city.
Watching it all unfold, I was reminded how important it is to slow down and engage in face-to-face conversation. In a world shaped by digital communication, intentional, in-person connection remains foundational to our well-being.
In the week ahead, I encourage you to carve out time for a simple, device-free conversation with someone in your family, a neighbour, or even a friend you haven’t seen in a while. And while you’re at it, perhaps create your own unique hot chocolate recipe. Sometimes, chatting and laughing about possible combinations is exactly the kind of connection we, and our children, need.

School Conferences
Our School Conferences will be held on Thursday, March 19 from 3:30 PM– 7:30 PM along with Friday, March 20 from 8:00 AM – 10:30 AM. This will be an opportunity for students to lead a discussion about how they perceive they are progressing in their learning. Students will be sharing their learning and reflecting on next steps. The value of this conference format is it empowers students to take ownership of their learning, giving them voice and self-awareness with respect to their development.
Teachers will be in the classroom and available for assistance in guiding and supporting conversations. As these conferences will be open house in style there may be other families in the room at the same time as yours. If you require a formal/private conversation regarding your child’s learning, you are always welcome to contact your child’s teacher for a more appropriate meeting time.
Due to the open house format, you do not need to register or pre-book a conference time.
School Planning Engagement Opportunity
At our upcoming School Council meeting on March 5, we will be doing a short presentation regarding the processes involved in school planning. This will also include an opportunity for you to share your input.
We know we make better decisions to support student learning when we build understanding and work together. During this engagement, you will have the opportunity to learn about school planning, including the school development plan, school budget and school fees. We hope you will be able to join us for this presentation and feedback session.
