Principal’s Message|
“The land knows you, even when you are lost.”
~Robin Wall Kimmerer
This year our school made a commitment to engaging in teaching and learning opportunities related to understanding what we can learn with, from, about and on the land. Throughout the year, classes have taken many opportunities to connect with the land around our school, often venturing to Cranston Ridge to sit and reflect.
Land-based learning offers numerous benefits that align perfectly with our educational goals. By immersing students in outdoor environments, they develop a deeper connection with nature, fostering a sense of environmental responsibility and stewardship from an early age. This approach also promotes physical activity, mental well-being, and a greater appreciation for the world around us.
Furthermore, land-based learning provides unique opportunities for interdisciplinary learning. Whether it's studying the ecosystem of a nearby forest, learning about indigenous cultures and their relationship with the land, or conducting scientific experiments outdoors, our students will gain a multifaceted understanding of various subjects in a hands-on and engaging manner.
A beautiful example of this inter-disciplinary work in action was captured this week at our Grade 2 Celebration of Learning. The work they shared demonstrated how learning on, with and about the land helps us connect our learning. Seeing how the land can inspire literacy, science, social studies, and art was truly remarkable. They seamlessly integrated concepts from various disciplines, demonstrating the interconnectedness of knowledge and the richness that comes from learning in authentic contexts.
This commitment to learning from, on and with the land will continue as we move into next year. How can your family spend time on the land together this summer?
Street Cleaning|
There is signage on the streets around the school indicating that street sweeping will be occurring on Monday, June 10 starting at 8:00. Please plan accordingly for student drop off and pick up on Monday to avoid parking in these areas.
Class Lists|
The process of developing class lists occurs right up until the first day of school next year. For this reason, families will find out who their child’s teacher is just before the start of school. An email will be sent at the end of August for more information regarding first day of school procedures.
2024-2025 Bus Registration|
Families are now able to register for school bus service for the 2024-2025 school year. Service levels and proposed fees will remain the same as the current school year. Please Apply Now.
Registration is available using your MyCBE account. (If you do not already have an account, learn how to create one.)
Families must register by Sunday, June 16 for students to be added to routes for the start of the next school year.
We continue to accept registrations after the deadline; however, students are added to the closest existing stop with available space. Processing times could be up to six weeks at the beginning of the school year due to volume.
Note: Conditional ridership forms will be available after registration closes.
Learning Commons Note|
Ms. Gallant asks that all books are returned to the learning commons by June 14. This allows for books to processed and shelved prior to the summer break. Thank you for your support in keeping our learning space running smoothly.
