Principal Update
Sibylla Kiddle School Families,
A new donut shop opened up in Calgary this summer. I have a difficult time resisting a good donut. As I lined up with hoards of other Calgarians for my dozen donuts, I couldn’t help but be mesmerized by the large windows that let you watch the donut making process in real time. Up and down through the oven before being dropped off in a lazy river of hot oil, on to a slow moving conveyor belt before doused in a waterfall of glaze. So yummy.
It isn’t just the donut that’s good, I love watching the process and gaining an understanding of what is going on behind the scenes before that donut melts away in mouth. Our school isn’t quite a donut shop but I can assure you that lots goes on behind the scenes to make our school the amazing place that it is. One of the best ways to see, learn and understand those processes is by attending our monthly School Council / Parent Society Meetings. The first meeting is coming up this Wednesday, September 10. All parents are welcome to come learn about how our school operates, offer your voice and ideas for our school and have a chance to meet some other parents.

School Council / Parent Society Meeting
Upcoming dates and information regarding our School Council / Parent Society can be found on our website under the heading 'Get Involved'. The first meeting will be held this upcoming Wednesday, September 10 at 6:30 PM. This meeting will be held in person, at the school.
As a parent at our school, you are welcome and encouraged to attend all of the School Council and Parent Society meetings. More information about the role of the Council and the role of the Parent Society will be given at our first meeting, including ways in which you can be involved as part of the leadership team.
PowerSchool Account Set-Up
Having an active PowerSchool Account is critical for accessing everything from fees to report cards to booking Parent / Teacher Conferences. To access your account or to create an account please go to the Student and Parent / Legal Guardian Sign In page on the CBE website. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school office.
Severe Allergies
Several students at our school have severe and in some cases life-threatening allergies to various nuts and nut products. Out of respect for these students and their families and in the interest of allowing all students to be safe at school we are asking that you do not pack lunches or snacks that contain these products.
Student Code of Conduct
Parents are encouraged to read through the CBE’s Student Code of Conduct. This document outlines guiding principles and responsibilities as to what is expected from students and parents concerning the school. Our teachers have been reviewing the concepts contained within this document with our students this week, using developmentally appropriate language and examples.
Birthday Treats
We know that birthdays are really important to our students. In light of student food allergies, we ask that you are mindful, should you choose to send in-class treats to celebrate your child’s day. Our preference is that you keep treats for home-based celebrations. However, non-food-based treats such as a special pencil or a new book for the classroom can be great alternative ways to celebrate the day. Thank you for your support and understanding.
Traffic / Parking
Thank you to all of our families for your patience with parking during our busy pick-up and drop-off times. We appreciate your willingness to protect our students by adhering to all traffic and parking signage. We still have some families using our staff parking lot for drop-off. We kindly ask that you find an alternate place to drop off your child. Likewise, if walking your child, please do not cut through this parking lot as we still have staff vehicles moving through that area throughout the day.
Hours
Monday - Thursday 8:00 AM – 2:30 PM
- A 15 min. flexible daily recess time is built into the day allowing teachers to take their students outside, when it is appropriate for learning.

Early Dismissal Fridays 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Fees
Once school fees have been uploaded by the CBE, they will appear on your PowerSchool Account. Generally, these fees are uploaded in late September or early October. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school office.
Supplies
Students will need to bring a pair of indoor shoes, a nut-free snack and a backpack to school. Students who are part of the lunch program will also need to bring a healthy lunch. All other consumable supplies (pencils, workbooks, crayons, etc.) are supplied by the school.
Lunchroom
All students may stay at school over the lunch break to eat their lunch and have an active living break. Once the system has been updated, you will be able to register and pay for the lunchroom program via your MyCBE / PowerSchool Account.
Please note, we are operating under the assumption that all students will be staying for lunch. If your child will be going home for lunch, please let the school know so we do not include them on our lunchroom attendance lists.
Bussing
If your child is NOT going to be on the bus, it is critical you call or email the school. We operate under the default that if your child is registered for the bus, then they will be on the bus unless we are told differently. Locating and confirming where students are at the end of the day can put considerable constraints on our office staff. Thank you for your understanding.
Information regarding your child’s bus route has been directly uploaded to your MyCBE / PowerSchool Account. If you have any concerns or questions regarding registration or routes, you can go to the main transportation website or email transportation@cbe.ab.ca.
