Principal’s Message

“We don’t remember days; we remember moments.”

(Cesare Pavese)

Life is not defined by the passage of time but by the vivid experiences that leave a lasting impact on our hearts and minds. A single laugh shared with a friend, a quiet moment of reflection, or an unexpected act of kindness can resonate far more than the routine of daily life. These moments, often fleeting yet profound, shape our identities and connections to others. They remind us to cherish the present and create memories worth holding onto. The opportunity to reminisce on memories often brings smiles, evoking feelings of happiness and joy. However, memories can also stir sadness as we reflect on the loss of loved ones or challenging moments in our lives. Despite this, the act of remembering remains crucial for documenting our history.

This week, teachers will focus on honoring Remembrance Day. Engaging in storytelling, discussions, and reading age-appropriate books helps students learn about the past, even if they don't have personal memories of these events. Coming together as a learning community for our Remembrance Day Service allows us to navigate the emotions tied to these difficult times and fosters a shared understanding. Remembering the past encourages us to ask questions, seek insight, and learn how we can improve in the future.

Let’s all take this week to reflect on how we can continue to remember, learn, and move forward positively.

Veterans Food Drive

Sibylla Kiddle (who our school is named after) consistently gave back to her community.  She would bake cookies for sick children, knit clothing for others, and even performed eye exams for kindergarten children.

At Sibylla Kiddle School, we also value the importance of empathy, community awareness, kindness and community service.  In the upcoming weeks around Remembrance Day, our school has organized a food drive for The Veterans Food Bank of Calgary.  From November 7 to 28, non-perishable food items will be collected in our classrooms to be donated to this food bank. Virtually any food item that is sold in a jar, can or box is acceptable. Commonly requested items include; canned meats (just not Spam), fruits, tomatoes, pasta, rice and cereal.

Thank you for your support of our students in their efforts to make a difference in the lives of others.

Traffic and Pedestrian Safety

Traffic and pedestrian safety continue to be a concern at both drop off and pick up. We would like to remind families of the importance of traffic safety around the school. Following traffic rules and being observant of pedestrians keeps our community safe.

If you are looking for further ideas about road safety at schools, please see the following article from AMA.
