Principal Update

Sibylla Kiddle School Families,

Those who know me well, know I’m a big Blue Jays fan. I’m not just a bandwagon fan, for me it is all year long. As I watch these World Series games, I will admit to envying the fans sitting right behind home plate. I can only imagine what it must be like to witness the game from that perspective.

While I don’t have a seat behind home plate, I do have the immense privilege of having front row seats to some the greatest talent in the world. Wednesday was our first day back after a highly charged and emotional strike. Our teachers were filled with internal emotions that were large and yet I wish you could have seen their professionalism as they executed their craft on a stage far more important than a baseball diamond – their classroom.

As I made visits to classrooms, students were fully engaged in the learning their teachers had prepared for them. In one class, students were laughing as they tried to figure out the paradoxes of air and water pressure in a syringe. In another class, young students were super focused on how to read words ending with ‘in’. Flashlights were shining in a grade 2 classroom and music was being created at the end of the hall. Numbers were being explored in math through a game and the lives of characters were being investigated through story. In the middle of it all, there was a teacher; a smile on their face, doing what they love and hitting home runs all over the room.

Win or lose this weekend, I will always cheer for my Blue Jays. However, I can already cheer loudly because every day I get to see the work of Sibylla Kiddle teachers, impacting the lives of our students, one conversation, one lesson and one moment at a time.

Return to Learning

We want to thank parents for your flexibility, understanding and support during the recent teacher labour action. The many acts of support and gestures of kindness have not gone unnoticed and collectively we say thank you.

As communicated by the CBE, our top priority is ensuring a smooth transition back to school that supports student learning and success. Activities and events such as performances, field trips, extra curriculars, school council meetings may be delayed, rescheduled or cancelled. We expect it will take some time for a full return to normal operations.

For our school community, please keep a close eye on these Weekly Updates for more information, as it becomes available, particularly with any adjustments to our school calendar.

Remembrance Day Ceremony

On November 7, as a school, we will pause to remember, with our annual Remembrance Day Ceremony. We would like to be able to hold one gathering of our students in the gym for this important time. Therefore, we are respectfully asking that parents do not join us that morning as we simply do not have the capacity in our gym for inviting guests. We thank you for your understanding in this matter and we encourage families to attend various ceremonies being held throughout our city on November 11.

Blue Jays Day

Win or lose this weekend, students are encouraged to wear Blue Jays shirts, hats and swag on Monday. If students don’t have Blue Jays gear, no problem, they can wear blue, white or red. Let’s celebrate the accomplishments of our national team together.

Fundraising Society – Casino Volunteers Required

The Sibylla Kiddle Fundraising Society needs volunteers! On December 1st & 2nd, the society will be involved with running a casino. These opportunities often generate between $60,000 - $80,000 for schools. To sign up for a volunteer position please visit SKS 2025 Casino Signup Genius. Thank you for your support.
