Principal’s Message
"Transitions are a time for reflection, and a time for looking forward."
- Roy Cooper
This time of year, as the remaining leaves find their way to the ground and a blanket of grey covers our skies, it is a time for reflection. A change in season, Remembrance Day and time with family over the Fall Break all provide a time for us to slow down and catch up. When I reflect on this time of year, I am reminded of how precious each day is. Like you, I am often entrenched in the fast pace of the day, consumed by the ever-growing list of ‘to dos’ and making my way through each day of the week as a checklist of duties and events. This Fall Break, I was able to connect and re-connect with myself and my family. The gift of time is something we are always seeking, and it was an opportunity to slow down and BE in the moment. Let the routine slide away a bit and enjoy. We hope that you all had the time to do what makes you happy and that you were able to slow down and BE in the moment.

Photo Retakes
These will take place on Monday, November 18. If you would like your child to get retakes you can send them back with their proofs or simply let them know that they should get retakes. A quick email to the teacher also ensures that they have a retake. If your kindergarten student does not attend on Monday and you would like retakes, you are welcome to bring them to the school that morning (8:30-9:00am) to get their retake.
Emergency Test Alert
On Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 1:55 p.m., the National Public Alerting System will send a test alert across Alberta to all broadcast platforms. During the test, an alert will sound, followed by a text message letting cellphone users know the sound is part of a test and there is no need for concern.
The Government of Alberta has created the Be Prepared program to support this work. Watch this one-minute video and visit alberta.ca/communityprep for resources on how to be better prepared for emergencies and disasters.
Lost and Not-yet Found
We have two overflowing cabinets of “lost and not yet found” items. Lost items are sorted and displayed. If your child is missing something (notably coats/hoodies), please encourage them to pick them up this week or stop by the school to look for missing items. Before or after school is a good time for parents to have a look through the “lost and not yet found” items.
As a reminder, please label your child(ren)s clothing. When it has a name, we can get it back to its owner. Unclaimed clothing will be packed and donated at different points in the year.
Veterans Food Drive
Sibylla Kiddle (who our school is named after) consistently gave back to her community. She would bake cookies for sick children, knit clothing for others, and even performed eye exams for kindergarten children.
At Sibylla Kiddle School, we also value the importance of empathy, community awareness, kindness and community service. In the upcoming weeks around Remembrance Day, our school has organized a food drive for The Veterans Food Bank of Calgary. From November 7 to 28, non-perishable food items will be collected in our classrooms to be donated to this food bank. Virtually any food item that is sold in a jar, can or box is acceptable. Commonly requested items include; canned meats (just not Spam), fruits, tomatoes, pasta, rice and cereal.
Thank you for your support of our students in their efforts to make a difference in the lives of others.
Teacher-Led Conferences
Our next set of school conferences will take place on November 28 and 29, 2024. During these conversations, teachers will provide you with an update on your child’s learning and discuss their next steps.
We strongly encourage parents to include their children as part of the conversation. This allows students to have a voice in their learning goals and to take personal responsibility for their learning.
Conference Booking opens via your MyCBE account on Thursday, November 21 at 8:00am. Once signed in, click on “MyCBE” then click on “my School Conferences”.
