Principal’s Message

“Kindness is a little seed that when cultivated can grow and grow and grow.”

(Random Acts of Kindness Website)

We have shared that this year we are focussing on growing kindness as a school community. We began our year by reading the book, “Kindness Grows” by Britta Teckentrup and have continued to use this as an anchor for our well-being work in classrooms. As a school we have recognized four branches of kindness that guide our work:

  • Kind to Self
  • Kind to Others
  • Kind to this Place
  • Kind to the Land

Each of these four branches connects to curricular concepts that students are learning as well as well-being, focussing on developing skills for our own self-regulation as well as peer relationships.

As we learn more about these four pillars of kindness, each month we will be recognizing students in our school that demonstrate these through kindness awards. Over the year, we will see the tree in our forest area grow as more and more students are added.

We encourage you to talk as a family about the ways that you can grow kindness through these four branches. How will you show kindness to self, others, places and the land?

Lost and Not-yet Found

We have two overflowing cabinets of “lost and not yet found” items. Lost items are sorted and displayed. If your child is missing something (notably coats/hoodies), please encourage them to pick them up this week or stop by the school to look for missing items. Before or after school is a good time for parents to have a look through the “lost and not yet found” items.

As a reminder, please label your child(ren)s clothing. When it has a name, we can get it back to its owner. Unclaimed clothing will be packed and donated at different points in the year.

Veterans Food Drive

Sibylla Kiddle (who our school is named after) consistently gave back to her community.  She would bake cookies for sick children, knit clothing for others, and even performed eye exams for kindergarten children.

At Sibylla Kiddle School, we also value the importance of empathy, community awareness, kindness and community service.  In the upcoming weeks around Remembrance Day, our school has organized a food drive for The Veterans Food Bank of Calgary.  From November 7 to 28, non-perishable food items will be collected in our classrooms to be donated to this food bank. Virtually any food item that is sold in a jar, can or box is acceptable. Commonly requested items include; canned meats (just not Spam), fruits, tomatoes, pasta, rice and cereal.

Thank you for your support of our students in their efforts to make a difference in the lives of others.

Teacher-Led Conferences

Our next set of school conferences will take place on November 28 and 29, 2024. During these conversations, teachers will provide you with an update on your child’s learning and discuss their next steps.

We strongly encourage parents to include their children as part of the conversation. This allows students to have a voice in their learning goals and to take personal responsibility for their learning.

Conference Booking opens via your MyCBE account on Thursday, November 21 at 8:00am. Once signed in, click on “MyCBE” then click on “my School Conferences”.
