Principal’s Message

“A “Can We Talk” Can Fix a Whole Lot of Things” ~unknown

May 5-11 is Mental Health Week in Canada. This year's theme focusses on an essential question: Can we talk? Mental health can often feel like a heavy subject, but it doesn’t have to be. Talking about it—whether we’re struggling or supporting someone else—can make all the difference. When we open up, we create spaces where others feel heard, understood, and less alone.

At our school, we strive to create a safe and welcoming environment for all students, and a big part of that is the simple act of talking. Our school development plan this year is focused on creating a sense of belonging through kindness to others. Striking up a conversation with someone new or offering people the chance to share their thoughts and feelings gives them the space to express themselves, whether they need advice or just someone to listen. One of the most powerful examples of this has been observed through our class sharing circles. It is during this sharing time that students can talk about important events in their lives, ask questions to get support or work together as a class to problem solve.

We encourage you to join us in this effort. Let’s continue to ask, Can we talk? Let’s use conversations to lift one another up, whether at home, in school, or in the community. Every conversation creates the potential for connection—and that can make all the difference.

Teacher Appreciation Week

As we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week, we want to take a moment to honor our outstanding educators at Sibylla Kiddle, whose contributions are invaluable to our children’s growth and development. These dedicated teachers go above and beyond each day to inspire, educate, and support our students.

Their influence reaches far beyond the classroom, helping shape the minds and hearts of tomorrow’s leaders. They invest countless hours in lesson planning, mentoring, and ensuring the overall well-being of each student.

This week is an opportunity for us to express our heartfelt gratitude for everything they do. Whether through a personal note or a simple thank you, let's make sure our teachers know just how deeply they are appreciated.

Thank you to all the teachers who make a lasting impact on our children's lives. Your hard work and dedication never go unnoticed.

PE Reminder

With the warmer weather, we want to remind families about the importance of proper athletic footwear.

To ensure the safety and comfort of all students during physical activity, it is essential that students come prepared with appropriate running or athletic shoes for PE class. Proper footwear helps prevent injuries and allows students to participate fully in all activities.

Please note that Crocs, sandals, slip-ons, or any non-athletic shoes are not suitable for PE and should not be worn during gym class. Crocs, in particular, do not provide the necessary support, grip, or protection for active movement, and they pose a tripping or slipping hazard during physical activity.

Please contact Mrs. McLean if you have any questions or concerns.

Yearbook On Sale Now

Yearbooks are on sale now! Please see the subscribed message that was sent out with more information about how to purchase our 2024-2025 yearbook.

Lost and Not-Yet Found

We once again have two overflowing cabinets of lost and not yet found items. Lost items are sorted and displayed. If your child is missing something (notably coats/hoodies), please encourage them to pick them up this week or stop by the school to look for missing items. Before or after school is a good time for parents to have a look through the “lost and not yet found” items.

As a reminder, please label your child(ren)s clothing. When it has a name, we can get it back to its owner. Unclaimed clothing will be packed and donated after the school dance on May 16.
