Principal’s Message

“Learning is an active process. We learn by doing...

Only knowledge that is used sticks in your mind.”

~Dale Carnegie

Walking around the school, it is easy to see how learning is a process. This week, we watched our grade 3 students share learning process during their celebration of learning linked to Calgary Campus/Open Minds. The process of writing was also evident in our grade 2 classrooms as students used stickers and their knowledge of life cycles to write stories. Many of our students have also been diligently practicing chords while watching videos to learn the Ukelele.

The learning process is an ongoing, active activity that involves acquiring new knowledge, skills, or behaviors through experience and interaction with the environment, rather than a single event or instantaneous change; it happens over time with continuous engagement and adaptation. Individuals must actively participate in the learning process by processing information, making connections, and applying new knowledge. This learning is heavily influenced by our surrounding environment and experiences we have within it, including our interactions with our classmates and teachers.

We look forward to sharing the learning process with you this week during our Virtual Student-Led Conferences.

Virtual Student-Led Conferences

On March 20 and 21, we invite families to join us for our next set of conferences. Due to the CUPE Local 40 strike, our conferences will move online. These conferences continue to be an opportunity for you to see your child's learning through their eyes, as they share some of their work with you. Please watch for communication from your child’s teacher about what learning and tasks your child will share with you. We then ask parents to sign up for a 10-minute virtual student-led conference for your child to discuss their learning with you and their teacher.

Registration Booking opened on Thursday, March 13 at 8:00am. Please register through your MyCBE account. Please remember to choose the appropriate grade level when selecting a conference. For technical support click here.

Parents will receive a Teams Link for this online conference. Be sure that you have access to a mobile device or computer to log in for this meeting. Should your teacher be unable to reach families on the Teams call, they may reach out to parents via phone call. In this case, you may receive a private caller message. Please be sure to answer this call.

Staffing Update

We would like to share some updates about our office staff. Mrs. Keye-Leigh Payton-Carew has accepted the Administrative Assistant Position at Cranston School. We want to thank Mrs. Payton-Carew for her support in the office and care for our students during her time at Sibylla Kiddle School.

We are excited to announce that Mrs. Chandal McNaughton will assume the role of Administrative Assistant for Sibylla Kiddle School for the remainder of the school year. Additionally, Tara Williams, a lunch supervisor at our school will take on the School Secretary and Lead Lunch positions. Please join me in welcoming Chandal and Tara into their new roles at the school.

Learn and Share | School Planning

We know we make better decisions to support student learning when we build understanding and work together. That’s why we are asking you to share your perspectives about our school development plan, school budget and school fees.

The survey is open from March 7 to March 21. Please click here to complete the survey.

Watch this short video to learn about the planning work schools do to improve and support student learning.

Your input is important to us, and we appreciate you taking the time to share your perspectives.
