Principal’s Message|

“Let’s make our circle strong.”

Saa’kokoto Randy Bottle, Kainai Elder

Saturday is National Indigenous Peoples’ Day. For generations, many Indigenous groups and communities have celebrated their culture and heritage on June 21 or around that time of year because of the significance of the summer solstice as the longest day of the year. At Sibylla Kiddle, we honoured this day by furthering our commitment to Truth and Reconciliation through land-based learning and sharing circles throughout the week. Students have made Bannock, learned about summer solstice, visited their sit spots and participated in sharing circles.

In recognition of this day, our school is also sharing our 2025-2026 Commitment to Truth and Reconciliation. Through reflection, our staff and students have shared how sharing circles have taught them to not only to share about themselves but also to learn how to listen respectfully, solve problems collaboratively, and understand how others are feeling. These circles became a trusted space where students asked to gather whenever issues arose, showing how they value this practice. Students’ understanding of the Medicine Wheel and sharing circle protocols have increased, with many also expressing that learning on the land—whether in their sit spots or during outdoor lessons—made them feel calm, peaceful, and happy.

In recognition of National Indigenous Peoples Day, and in alignment with the CBE Education Plan,

Sibylla Kiddle School

acknowledges and supports the Truth and Reconciliation Commission

of Canada’s (TRC) Calls to Action, and makes the following commitment to action for the 2025-2026 school year:

Our learning community commits to fostering meaningful learning relationships with Indigenous Elders and Knowledge Keepers that are grounded in reciprocity. We will deepen our understanding and application of Indigenous circle processes by incorporating sharing circles as a respectful and inclusive method of dialogue among students, staff, and families. Central to this commitment is the intentional development and use of our new outdoor Sharing Circle, including the establishment of clear protocols guided by Indigenous traditions and community input. These actions will be further supported by the Indigenous Education Holistic Lifelong Learning Framework and the Alberta Curriculum.

In making our commitment, Call to Action #62.3 offered inspiration.

Sharing Circle Update|

We recently shared on Instagram that our sharing circle is complete, although some time is still needed to let the new grass grow. A huge thank you to our School Council and Fundraising Society for working alongside us to both create and fund this project. We are excited about the possibilities for this space in the coming year.

We had planned on having an opening ceremony for the sharing circle this past Tuesday. Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances we have had to postpone the opening until the fall. We know this is a disappointing outcome, however, are still working on some ways to have students symbolically contribute their painted rocks to the sharing circle. Thank you for your understanding around this change.

2025-2026 School Calendar|

The 2025-2026 school calendar is now available. You can access the school calendar here: 2025 26 Sibylla Kiddle Calendar

Year End Treats|

As we enter our final week of school, we would like to remind parents about not sending in food-based treats for students to share at school. Although we are grateful for the gesture, we must consider food allergies and other food preferences.

Medication at the Office|

Please ensure you have collected your child’s medication from the office. Medication is not stored at the school over the summer. If you would like to arrange for your child to bring their medication home in their backpack, please contact the office.

Lost and Not-Yet Found|

As we start to organize and clean up for the end of the year, we are encouraging families to check the lost and found. If your child is missing something (notably coats/hoodies), please encourage them to pick them up this week or stop by the school to look for missing items. Before or after school is a good time for parents to have a look through the “lost and not yet found” items. Unclaimed items will be packed and donated at the end of the day on June 26.

Active Living Day Thank You|

On behalf of our staff and students, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the parents who volunteered their time and energy to help make our Active Living Morning a success.

Your support was truly appreciated—whether you were setting up stations, guiding students through activities, or cheering them on, your presence helped create a fun and engaging experience for everyone involved. Events like this would not be possible without the enthusiasm and commitment of our school community.

Thank you once again for being such an important part of the day. We are grateful for your partnership in promoting healthy, active lifestyles for our students.
