Principal’s Message
Families across Calgary are invited to join the Calgary Board of Education in celebrating Family Literacy Week from Jan. 26 to Feb. 2 (Family Literacy Day falls on January 27). This year’s focus centers on environmental learning through the theme “Learn to Be Green, Together.” This day is intended to raise awareness about the importance of reading and engaging in literacy activities as a family.
So, what is family literacy? Family literacy is all about creating opportunities for families to spend quality time together, engaging in enjoyable and meaningful activities that support the development of children’s literacy skills.
There are countless ways families can incorporate literacy into their daily lives. You might set aside time for a special story, share jokes around the dinner table, take a trip to the public library, or cook a new recipe together. Literacy can take many forms, so have fun exploring different activities as a family!
The Calgary Board of Education has put together some resources and suggestions for literacy activities that families can take part in over the week. You can find the resource list attached.
Next week, we challenge your family to try out something from this resource list. What can you do during Family Literacy Week to celebrate all things literacy?

January Report Cards
Teachers have been working hard completing report cards for our students. Report cards summarize and communicate your child’s achievement at this point of the school year.
Report cards will include achievement indicators for all discipline areas for students in Grades 1-5. Additionally, students will receive comments under the headings Areas of Strength and Areas for Growth.
As a note, Kindergarten teachers will report progress in ELAL (English Language Arts and Literature) and Math via the report card. In June, progress in all discipline areas will be communicated via the report card.
For more information about reporting, please refer to The Calgary Board of Education document How is My Child Doing at School?
Families will be able to view online student report cards for Kindergarten to Grade 12 students on Jan. 27, 2025. Report cards for the 2024-25 school year may be viewed, downloaded and/or printed by parents from MyCBE.
Yearbook Volunteers
As we look forward to the 2024-25 Sibylla Kiddle yearbook, we are in of need a couple of parent volunteers to help in the development of the yearbook. Unfortunately, our staff resources are limited, and we require volunteer support. This volunteer work can be done entirely offsite and on your own schedule. As a school, we would be happy to support you. If you are interested in taking on this leadership, please contact the school at sibyllakiddle@cbe.ab.ca. A yearbook cannot be published without your support.
School Council/Parent Society Notes
Our School Council/Parent Society Meeting held their AGM on Wednesday, January 22 beginning at 6:30pm in our Learning Commons. If you would like to learn more about both groups, please see the school website.
