Principal Update

When I write the word ‘literacy’, what comes to mind? A typical response would likely be reading or writing. Online definitions of literacy vary but ultimately to be literate means you have a proficient understanding of a language in order to accomplish a task. However, the word ‘language’ is also not as simplistic as it appears on the surface. Virtually every discipline imaginable has a language. Mathematics. Chemistry. Healthcare. Mechanics. Cooking. How well you know a language will determine how effectively you can accomplish a task within that language.

This upcoming week is Family Literacy Week. A week to engage together, as a family, in various literacy-based activities. Here is a link to some fantastic resources to spark ideas for how your family could engage in Family Literacy Week. It offers ideas for reading and writing, along with opportunities to build literacy across science, the arts, mathematics, and Indigenous ways of knowing.

I encourage you to take time with your child during the week ahead to explore some new resources. Find something that may support their English language development. Find something that merges learning and laughter in your home. Find something that just might surprise you about your own understandings of literacy.

Parent Building Access

We want to remind our parent community that they are welcome in our school building but you must first check-in and sign-in at the office. We have seen an increase in parents accessing the school through all of our doors, particularly in the morning. Thank you for your understanding.
