Principal Update

Sibylla Kiddle School Families,

Athletic isn’t a word you will ever hear when people describe me. I’ve never really been on a sports team. I’ve jogged through the odd fun run and every few years I decide to take up a gym membership, which I generally cancel within a few months from lack of use. Perhaps that is why I’m always in such awe when I watch the athletes in the Olympics. They embody the Olympic motto – “Faster, Higher, Stronger – Together”. They train for years to be the fastest, the highest, and the strongest. They commit, they persevere and they sacrifice. For that, I have nothing but respect.

As you watch the upcoming Winter Olympics, there will be many opportunities to point out acts of athletic heroism to your children. There will no doubt be much to celebrate.

However, did you catch the last word of the Olympic motto? It’s easy to miss. It’s together. No athlete reaches the podium alone. They have coaches to give them feedback.

Therapists to keep them in peak physical condition. Teammates to challenge them. Family and friends to cheer for them and hold them when setbacks arise. The entire team, not just the athlete, commits. They persevere and they sacrifice.

As you cheer on your favourite athlete, don’t forget their support team. Point them out to your child. Watch the mini-documentaries aired in the sporting broadcast and use them as teaching opportunities. As you know, our school theme this year is the Circles All Around Us, based on the book by Brad Montague. It celebrates the influence we all have on each other. It takes a team.

Alberta Education and Childcare Assurance (AECA) survey (Grade 4)

Parents of Grade 4 students should have received the Alberta Education and Childcare Assurance (AECA) survey by email from Alberta Education. This survey is administered yearly to parents who have children in grades 4, 7 and 10. Your voice helps us understand your perceptions about teaching and learning at our school. It gives us valuable feedback for understanding those areas where we are doing well and those areas where we need to pay more attention. The survey is also important for giving feedback to Alberta Education in allowing them to shape the future of education in Alberta.

Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey.
