Principal’s Message
“If you improve 1% a day, then in 100 days, guess what? You’re 100% better.”
~Ken Carter
It’s hard to believe that 100 days of school has passed us by! The 100th day of school is more than just a milestone worth noting – it’s a rich learning opportunity where many learning opportunities can come into play all at once. This week, many classes engaged in math, art, literature and thinking activities that focussed on different concepts of the number 100, including searching for 100 small ducks and imagining what they might look like in 100 years. The 100th day has become a vehicle to invite children to think, communicate, make choices and problem solve.
The 100th day of school also allows us to pause and reflect on the learning that has happened in past 100 days. Students have improved their reading comprehension, expanded their vocabulary, and developed their writing skills. They have mastered counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Art has been created, history has been explored, and science experiments have been conducted. Perhaps most importantly, students have formed new friendships, practiced kindness, and learned the importance of cooperation and collaboration.
This week, we encourage your family to explore something new and see where it leads you in the next 100 days. You could begin learning a new dance style, practice digital art, take up creative writing, learn how to bake, try birdwatching, start a fitness routine like yoga or cycling, or even take up knitting, pottery, or origami. The possibilities are endless in 100 days, and who knows what exciting experiences might come from trying something new!

Pink Shirt Day
The Pink Shirt Day Story
In 2007, Berwick, Nova Scotia, after a new student at their school was bullied for wearing a pink shirt, two grade 12 students bought 50 pink shirts and encouraged their classmates to wear pink. The next day they went to distribute the shirts and to their surprise, most of the students arrived wearing pink! With that act of kindness, Pink Shirt Day was born. In recognition of the Berwick event, the last Wednesday each February is Canada’s national Pink Shirt/anti-bullying day. Many countries recognize specific days for raising awareness about the prevention of bullying and promoting kindness and inclusion. In Canada, many students have heard the Pink Shirt Day message from kindergarten through to their high school graduation. The movement continues to grow.
Next week, on Wednesday, February 26, we encourage our students to wear pink in recognition of Pink Shirt Day.

CUPE Local 40 Strike Update|
On Feb. 19, 2025, CUPE Local 40 served 72-hour strike notice to the CBE. This means that the union will withdraw services beginning Monday, Feb. 24, 2025.
CBE is prioritizing in-person learning during labour action. All schools and buildings will remain open, and classes will continue. We are committed to ensuring schools remain a place where students, staff and families feel valued, supported and safe. However, a strike will have an impact on schools and operations, and some activities booked over the Feb. 22-23 weekend may also be impacted.
We value the contributions of all employees who support student success, and we respect the bargaining process.
Please visit the CBE website for labour updates and information.
School Council/Parent Society Notes|
Our next School Council/Parent Society Meeting will be held on Thursday, March 6 beginning at 6:30pm in our Forest. If you would like to learn more about both groups, please see the school website.
