Principal’s Message
“All good things come after a period of hibernation.”
~ @abundantlyanushka
These past few weeks we have found ourselves thrown into a new, much colder season. With this shift, nature reminds us of the rhythms and cycles that shape our world—one of which is hibernation. Many animals, from bears to hedgehogs, enter a period of rest as colder months approach. It's a time for them to conserve energy and weather the harsh conditions of winter. This past week some of our grade 3 students were able to witness animal changes while visiting the Calgary Zoo during their week of Zoo School.
For us, too, the change of seasons offers a chance to slow down and reflect. The hustle and bustle of fall gives way to quieter moments where we can recharge, find comfort in routines, and prepare for what’s to come during festive season.
This season encourages us to pause and appreciate the beauty in stillness—whether it’s through a peaceful walk in the crisp air or a moment of reflection in our classrooms. Just as animals prepare for winter by gathering food and finding shelter, we can use this time to focus on our own well-being and growth, both individually and as a community.
As we enter this time of hibernation and rest, let’s embrace the change of season with gratitude and anticipation for the renewal that spring will eventually bring.
Wishing you all warmth, comfort, and moments of peaceful reflection as we journey through this season together.

SKS Winter Frostival|
On the evening of Thursday, December 5 from 6:00-7:30pm we would like to welcome families to our first annual Winter Festival, The SKS Frostival. This will be an open house style event with various activities happening throughout the school for families to take part in together. Come and join us for crafts, caroling, puzzles and more!
In addition to the festival, school council will be holding a Vendor Craft Market and Kid’s Craft Workshop in the gym. A variety of vendors will be available with items for sale. This is a great opportunity to grab some early holiday gifts.
School Council is looking for volunteers for Kid's Gift Workshop. They are looking for 12 more amazing volunteers to help at the crafting stations during the Kid's Gift Workshop!
Shifts are just 30 minutes, so you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy the event with your family too! Sign up now via

Please note: As this is a school event, volunteers must have a valid police information check with CBE.
Let’s make this event magical for the kids! Thanks for your support! We look forward to having you join us for this fun event on December 5.
Report to Parents on Fees
Our Report to Parents on Fees for 2023-2024 has now been posted to the Sibylla Kiddle website.
Thank you for your Donations
Thank you for your generosity toward our food drive for the Veterans Food Bank. As a school we collected 396 items. Thank you for your support of our students in their efforts to show kindness to others.
Lost and Not Yet Found
We have two overflowing cabinets of “lost and not yet found” items. Lost items are sorted and displayed. If your child is missing something (notably coats/hoodies), please encourage them to pick them up or stop by the school to look for missing items. Before or after school is a good time for parents to have a look through the “lost and not yet found” items.
As a reminder, please label your child(ren)s clothing. When it has a name, we can get it back to its owner. Unclaimed clothing will be packed and donated next week after conferences.
Attendance Success
Regular school attendance has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school. Even as children grow older and more independent, families play a key role in making sure students get to school safely every day and understand why attendance is so important for success in school and in life.
We realize some absences are unavoidable due to health problems or other circumstances. When students miss too much school, it can cause them to fall behind academically. Regular school attendance is an important life skill on the path to graduation and future employment.
Did you know?
- By grade 3, students with regular attendance are more likely to read at grade level.
 - By grade 6, regular attendance is a predictor of high school completion.
 - By grade 9, regular attendance is a better predictor of graduation rates than test scores.

Please ensure that your child attends school every day and arrives on time. Here are a few practical tips to help support regular attendance:
- Listen and show an interest in your child’s day.
 - Encourage your child to do well in school and praise their success.
 - Help your child maintain daily routines such as, eating breakfast, turning off electronics two hours before bedtime and going to bed early.
 - If possible try to schedule dental and medical appointments after school hours or on days off from school.
 - Send your child to school unless sick.
 - It may be a concern if your child is often sick, complains about going to school and/or struggles with school work.
 - Ask for help from the school before the problem gets too big. No problem is too small.

School Council/Parent Society Notes
A huge thank you to the school council and parent society for funding our new and improved sensory room. We are grateful for their support and for the volunteers and families who support our fundraisers and make initiatives like this possible. We know this space will continue to support our students.
