Principal Update

Sibylla Kiddle School Families,

Jeopardy music.) I think most of us could quickly name off far more than 3 benefits of outdoor playtime. I raised the stakes and asked AI the same question but changed the parameter to 100 benefits. As with AI, in mere moments I had 100 ideas at my fingertips.

I was at the school a little later into the evening one night this week. As I left, the sun was still shining and the playground was full of families. I smiled as the benefits of outdoor play are boundless. Physical health, mental health and social skill development are just a starting point.

Being curious, I asked AI if it would be harder to create a list for the benefits of screen time. It returned a complex answer but overall suggested that it could do the job, but the benefits all come with conditions. Consider context, be careful of overuse and be aware of the content are just some of the cautions given. AI didn’t deny that there can be benefits of screen time but it also argued that ‘outdoor play is almost universally positive across contexts.

The weather has turned the corner and spring appears to finally be here. Take time to play and be outdoors. As you play with your children or sit back and watch their interactions, delight in watching their brain and bodies be fueled in healthy ways.

Hats On! for Mental Health

May 6 is Hats On! for Mental Health Day. Students are invited to wear a hat to school as a simple way to help raise awareness about the importance of mental health. Conversations about feelings and well-being are sometimes easy to avoid, even though they matter deeply. While hats are something many of us don’t think much about in our day-to-day lives, wearing one on this day serves as a small but meaningful reminder not to overlook our mental health or the conversations that support it. Classes will also take part in developmentally appropriate discussions to further explore this important topic.

Fundraising Society – Treasurer needed

The Fundraising Society is looking for a Treasurer. This is a critical position in the Fundraising Society as it cannot operate without a Treasurer. We do not need an accountant. If you like numbers and you can navigate a very simple spreadsheet, you meet the qualifications. If you are interested or if you have questions, please email sibyllakiddle@cbe.ab.ca.
