Principal’s Message

“Education Week is a celebration of community. The school is not just a building in the neighbourhood, it is the foundation of the community.”

(Alberta Teachers’ Association)

As we celebrate Education Week, we are reminded of how the school serves as a cornerstone of our community. Education Week provides an opportunity for us to reflect on the importance of the connections we share and the role we play in shaping the future together.

Our school thrives because of the support and collaboration between students, parents, and staff, and we are grateful for the community spirit that makes our school a place of growth, learning, and shared success.

As shared by the Alberta Teachers’ Association, Education week is a great time to celebrate public education and work toward an inspired future that includes:

  • Optimal learning conditions for every child
  • Creative and innovative learning programs
  • Students who enjoy learning and who achieve their learning goals
  • Parents and communities that are involved and supportive of learning

(2025 The Alberta Teachers’ Association)

We look forward to celebrating this week with you and continuing to work together to nurture the potential in every student.

Digital Decodables Library

This resource has been developed to provide access to digital versions of decodable reading materials for CBE teachers and families. These digital offerings support both our understanding of decodable books and provide opportunities for beginning readers to access these reading materials at home and school. The materials will continue to be updated as the library evolves over time. The updates and improvements will be on-going, so please check back often.

Mindful Moments

We are happy to announce that the Mindful Moments Program will now recommence. If your child is registered for this after school program, it will begin again on Monday, April 7. The program will end on Monday, May 5. Please note there is no programming on Monday, April 21.

Gymnastics/Movement Education

Our gymnastics/movement education unit will be running from April 3-18 in your student’s scheduled Physical Education class. Over the next 3 weeks, we will use a combination of trestles, ladders, large and small mats.  Throughout the year, teachers have provided students with various experiences to establish safety routines and promote cooperation and sportsmanship. We will review gym conduct and safety starting April 3 and ask parents to be aware of and review the following student expectations with their children.

Student Expectations:

  • No jewelry, loose clothing, skirts or dresses
  • Bare feet or proper running shoes only
  • Tie back long hair. This applies to all genders.
  • No hats as it impairs the students’ vision.
  • Students work independently or in small groups quietly as noise can distract others and may cause falls.
  • Children do what they are comfortable doing. No showing off or daring allowed.
  • Pyramids, cartwheels, headstands, handstands, dive rolls, and aerials (flips) are not permitted as they are unsafe.
  • Students must land on their feet (or seated on the crash mat).

Safety is of the utmost importance for this unit. Students must conduct themselves in a cooperative and safe manner. Please review these expectations at home with your child.

Indigenous Family Resource Guide

We want to share the Indigenous Family Resource Guide to support Indigenous students and families within the CBE to know about and be able to access culturally relevant, holistic community services and supports.

This Indigenous specific guide works alongside the existing CBE Family Resource Guide. Families can also access 211 Alberta, a 24/7 helpline for an up-to-date online database of support and services.
