Principal Update

Sibylla Kiddle School Families,

On my morning commute today, I switched up my usual podcast talks to some music. In particular, I started listening to the Piano Guys. Have you heard their work? They are a group of musicians who create instrumental and unique covers of familiar songs. Some songs are older, like Für Elise while others are more from pop culture such as Eye of the Tiger.

What makes them unique is their ability to take old classics and remaster them for new audiences. In some ways, this is much like the staff here at Sibylla Kiddle. Throughout this school year, I have watched as they take old learning classics and remaster them for their students. New stories have been read and written, unique art work has been both critiqued and created, real life math problems have been pondered while fresh takes to various sports have been explored.

As I look back on this past year, along with my time at Sibylla Kiddle, I owe a significant debt if gratitude to the staff that I have had the privilege of working alongside, each and every day. I’ve seen the time they have dedicated to ensuring students feel welcome while creating lessons which are engaging and purposeful. I’m grateful to have learned from them and with them.

Many of these talented educators will remain at our school for the 26-27 school year. However, as happens over the course of life, we also need to say farewell to some of them who will be moving on to new opportunities. In light of that, we want to say a fond farewell to Mr. Jackson, Mrs. McLean, Mrs. MacLeod, Ms. Dafoe, Ms. Bradley and Ms. Bridden. We want to wish you much success where your teaching journeys take you next. We also want to sent a big congratulatory farewell to our Educational Assistant, Mrs. Smid, who is retiring. For years, Mrs. Smid has patiently supported students at our school and throughout the CBE in finding their early wings. She has individually sat beside students as they learned to sound out new words. She has helped comfort many students with big feelings and she has passionately advocated for vulnerable students. She will be greatly missed and we wish her much joy in her next adventures.

On behalf of the Sibylla Kiddle School staff, I wish you all a wonderful summer. I hope you continue to learn new things, that you get to explore your community and that you get to experience much joy in all that life has to offer.

Brad Emery, Principal

Active Living Afternoon

On Wednesday, June 24 we will have our annual Active Living afternoon. Students will be outside for the afternoon participating in fun Physical Education events supported by staff and volunteers. We want to say thank you to the large group of volunteers who have committed to help us out on that day. We are keeping a close eye on the weather. In the event of significant rain, we will unfortunately need to reschedule or cancel this event. Finally, we want to thank our School Council for providing freezies at the end of the afternoon as a special year-end treat for our students.

Summer Closure

Our school will be closed for the summer from July 1 – August 25, 2026. Please note that staff emails, the main school email and voicemails will not be monitored over the summer. Our office will open again on Wednesday, August 26. We hope you all have a wonderful summer.

Medications

If your child has medications in the school office, please make arrangements to come into the school to pick up those medications during the final week of school. If you would like us to send these medications home with your child on the last day of school, please let the office know.

Report Cards – Online Access

Online report cards will be enabled for viewing starting on June 25, 2026. Legal guardians are welcome to view K-12 report cards online in your MyCBE Account. For additional supports (e.g. videos, guides etc.) with Attendance, Assessment and Reporting, click on Technical Support for Students & Parents.

Library Books

It’s time to clean out closets and have a peek under the bed. We are still missing a number of library books that need to get returned for the summer. We are asking students and parents to have a look around your home to see if there are any needing to be returned.

Sibylla Kiddle 2026-2027 Calendar

The 2026-27 Sibylla Kiddle Calendar is available on our school website calendar page. As information for specific events such as Healthy Hunger, assemblies and field trips are determined, they will be communicated to families and added to the calendar, as they are scheduled throughout the year.

Pancake Breakfast

Yahoo! What an amazing success. A huge thank you to the Calgary Stampede Caravan along with a small army of parent and corporate Calgary volunteers for putting on this event. The community turn out was tremendous with an estimate of almost 1000 breakfasts served. Thank you to everyone who helped make this event a success.
