Sibylla Kiddle School Families,
As a rule of thumb, one can never go wrong with pizza. I love pizza. As long as it doesn’t have mushrooms, olives or a few other not so tasty toppings, I’m all in.
Aside from figuring out how much to tip a driver or a restaurant, I don’t generally associate pizza with math. However, it doesn’t take too much creativity to use pizza night as an opportunity to bring real life math conversations into your home. For younger students, they can count the number of slices of pizza or even how many pepperoni pieces are on the top. Perhaps some students are ready to add up how many slices everyone ate or even consider how many slices will be eaten which can be translated into how many pizzas to order. Older students might consider cost per slice or do some classic fraction comparisons. Is 4/8 and 1/2 really equivalent? You can even get middle school students into the mix by considering the size differences between a Small-Medium-Large by comparing areas and throwing in a little cost analysis.
Whether it’s pizzas, a trip to the grocery store, a road trip or a sporting event, math lives in virtually every aspect of our lives. For many, math can raise a little bit of anxiety, but it doesn’t need to. The more we see it, talk about it, play with it, and have some fun with it, the more comfortable it becomes. Now, time to order up some pizza, or better yet, make one together at home. I’ll take a meat lover's, please.

Next Year Class Planning Considerations
As we prepare for the year ahead, we are entering the early stages of planning our classroom configurations for 2026-2027. If there are specific learning considerations we should be aware of when creating class lists, we would appreciate your input.
Requests for specific teachers should not be made, as staffing assignments can change significantly from year to year, including which teachers are at our school and the grade levels they are assigned to teach.
We also work intentionally to ensure students are placed with peers with whom they have positive social connections. Requests regarding specific student placements cannot always be accommodated. In some situations, requests may conflict with those of another family, while in other cases, observed learning dynamics may suggest certain pairings are not the most effective learning match.
If you would like to share information for us to consider, please put your thoughts in writing and email them to sibyllakiddle@cbe.ab.ca no later than May 25, 2026. While no guarantees can be made, please know that significant time and care are put into creating balanced classroom configurations that best support the learning needs of all students.
If you already know that your child will not be attending Sibylla Kiddle School for the 2026-2027 school year, please contact the school office as soon as possible so that our projected enrolment records remain accurate.
Sunscreen
As you know, the weather is starting to improve and warmer days are near. This is the time of year when we see an increase in sunscreen at school. This is great, as students are protecting their skin. Please note, if students are using a spray, they should be applying it outside. Our staff is unable to apply lotion or sprays; students will need to put it on themselves.
