Principal Update

Sibylla Kiddle School Families,

If I had the power to free up your calendar for one day so you could go on a field trip anywhere in our city, where would you go? What would you do? What is the first thing that comes to mind? For me, it would be a tour of Calgary's notable ice cream shops. I would sample as many flavours as possible. Knowing how my mind works, I would quickly start ranking and comparing them on a spreadsheet. If I really wanted to have some fun, I would ask AI to create the perfect ice cream flavour based on my rankings. Would I agree with the result? Disagree? Could I actually create a recipe for it?

Many of our students have been actively engaged in field studies around our city this spring. Lougheed House, the Confluence, Granary Road, the Calgary Zoo, the Leighton Centre, and Bow Habitat are just a few examples of the learning experiences students have enjoyed across the grades.

You may notice that, in our calendar, I refer to these experiences as field studies rather than field trips. The difference is subtle, but important. The term field study highlights the learning intentionally built into these adventures beyond the school walls. While they are certainly enjoyable, they are much more than entertainment.

Looking back at my ice cream example, the outing becomes a field study the moment it moves beyond simply eating ice cream and into thinking, questioning, comparing, analyzing, creating, and reflecting. The learning is what transforms the experience.

As summer approaches, what field studies might you experience with your child?

Pancake Breakfast

In an effort to bring school community together for a fun event, our School Council has organized a Pancake Breakfast for the morning of Thursday, June 18. They have partnered with the Calgary Stampede for an authentic Calgary experience, a pancake breakfast.

Breakfast will be served from 7:30 – 8:30 AM on the compound. All students are invited to get some pancakes and sausages (Halal friendly). There will be enough food for every student and one additional family member, so come join the fun. For students with dietary concerns, please let your classroom teacher know. We have a selection of dairy-free and gluten-friendly options for those students.

To get in the stampede spirit, students are encouraged to wear Western clothing on that day, if they have it. As a final treat, our new Principal, Mrs. Lundgren will also be in attendance that morning to greet students and parents.

Bus Registration 2026-2027

Registration for the 2026-27 school year began on May 13. Registrations must be received by June 14, 2026 to ensure students are added to routes for the first day of classes next year. Late registrations will continue to be received but will result in a delay in access to the bus route.

Transportation is an annual service that can be paid monthly. Families are not able to register for only certain months ahead of time. Once registered, service continues until a cancellation is submitted, even if the student doesn't ride the bus every day.
