Principal Update

Sibylla Kiddle School Families,

I took a moment this week to look back at a selection of weekly messages from this year as well as some of my earlier years at Sibylla Kiddle. I noticed three themes emerge. Connection. Curiosity. Community.

It has been through these updates that I have hoped to find connection points with our families. To empathize with the joys and challenges of raising children, to connect you to the learning happening within our building and to offer ideas for ways you can connect with your child.

Likewise, I have offered prompts of curiosities. Do you have a favourite visual artist? What traditions and celebrations are meaningful to your families? What brings you joy? The questions can come across as rhetorical but they are designed to inspire thought and creativity. I believe strongly that questions of curiosity are the spark for thinking.

Finally, I hope you have seen my love of community. The importance of valuing diversities within cultures, skill sets, and interests. A recognition that not one of us can be fully independent. Raising a child and inspiring learning takes a community of committed helpers.

I want to take this week’s update to say thank you. Thank you for joining me and trusting me to work together in order to inspire learning in our students, your children. Thank you for the connections that have been made, the curiosities that have been inspired and the community that has been built. My sincere hope is that you will continue these ideas in the years to come. It has been a pleasure to work in partnership with you in this journey.

Pancake Breakfast

In an effort to bring school community together for a fun event, our School Council has organized a Pancake Breakfast for the morning of Thursday, June 18. They have partnered with the Calgary Stampede for an authentic Calgary experience, a pancake breakfast.

Breakfast will be served from 7:30 – 8:30 AM on the compound. All students are invited to get some pancakes and sausages (Halal friendly). There will be enough food for every student and one additional family member, so come join the fun. For students with dietary concerns, please let your classroom teacher know. We have a selection of dairy-free and gluten-friendly options for those students.

To get in the stampede spirit, students are encouraged to wear Western clothing on that day, if they have it. As a final treat, our new Principal, Mrs. Lundgren will also be in attendance that morning to greet students and parents.

Two important questions have come up since last week…

  1. How much does the breakfast cost? This is free! A special thank you to Calgary Stampede and the Sibylla Kiddle Council for covering all costs associated with this breakfast.
  2. Can I bring my pet? We know pets are important family members in many homes. Unfortunately, no, pets are not allowed on school property. Thank you for your understanding.
