Principal Update
Sibylla Kiddle School Families,
I take a lot in life for granted. When I stop and reflect for a moment, I recognize that my reality is not everyone’s reality. I have access to hot water out of my taps. I have windows to let the sunshine in and to keep the cold out. I have a fridge in which I can store some leftovers. Just having leftovers for my lunch the next day is something I take for granted, let alone a clean fork to pull out of the drawer.
Many of Calgary’s most vulnerable citizens do not have the same ‘luxuries’ that many of us have access to. That is why we are working hard to collect day-to-day basic items for the Mustard Seed this holiday season. I don’t think twice when I grab my bottle of shampoo, squeeze my toothpaste tube or pull-on some warm socks. However, for others, these items can be a luxury. Let’s see if our school community can support this venture over the next week. More information can be found below in the section entitled ‘Mustard Seed Basic Essentials’.
I recognize that supporting this work may be difficult for some of our families. This initiative is purely optional as we want to ensure that you are taking care of your own family’s needs first. If your family requires support and you need more information about where you canaccess resources in our city, please contact the school and we would be happy to help you get connected.

Winter Weather Outdoor Guidelines
In alignment with CBE guidelines, we will continue to take our breaks outdoors as long as the temperature is warmer than -20̊C, with or without the wind chill. This means students should come prepared to be outside everyday as bitter cold morning temperatures can warm up during the day. We are already opening school doors 10 minutes before school begins. This practice will continue, regardless of the weather, so that students have a warm building to be in on inclement days. Should the temperature be -20̊C or colder, we will be doing indoor activities and the doors in the morning will open at 7:45 AM.
Mustard Seed Basic Essentials
Yesterday, you will have received information about a school wide initiative to support The Mustard Seed, this season. We are collecting adult sized warm socks, mittens and gloves. We are also collecting travel-sized toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, tissues, lip balm and deodorant. Students can bring collected items into the school for us to pass along to The Mustard Seed.
Casino Volunteers – Thank you
A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered for the Casino Fundraiser this past week. Your contributions and time will make a significant difference in being able to fund various initiatives around our school. Thank you as well goes to various Calgary citizens who call themselves the ‘casino angels,’ who helped to ensure all of our required spots were filled. We could not have done this work without their support.
