Principal’s Message

“Spring: a lovely reminder of how beautiful change can truly be.”

As we witness the transition from winter to spring, it's a great reminder of the remarkable changes that unfold within our children, much like the unfolding petals of a spring flower. Just as nature awakens with new life and vibrancy, our students also undergo growth and transformation during this season.

Spring brings with it a sense of renewal and possibility, and it's during this time that we often see significant changes in our students, both academically and personally. Each day, they embark on a journey of self-awareness, discovering their strengths, interests, and values. Springtime also brings people together, fostering connections and nurturing relationships. Similarly, our children come to school each day to cultivate friendships, create bonds with peers, and develop a sense of empathy and compassion.

Like the buds of spring flowers, our students carry immense potential waiting to bloom. As they immerse themselves in learning experiences and engage with new ideas, we witness the gradual unfurling of their capabilities and talents. This week at student-led conferences, families had the opportunity to see first-hand their child’s growth in learning and their abilities.

As we embrace the changing seasons, let us also celebrate the remarkable transformations taking place within our children.

Sincerely,

Lisa Patten

Acting Principal

Social Studies Curriculum Draft Feedback

Albertans are invited to provide feedback until April 2, 2024, on key learnings in the new draft social studies curriculum. As part of this phase of public engagement, Alberta Education has released two new documents:

The Draft K-12 Social Studies Subject Overview provides a summary of what students learn in each grade and shows how learning progresses as students transition through grades. This helps parents see the full scope of their child’s learning from K-12.

The new Draft K-6 Social Studies Curriculum is a document used by teachers to guide student learning, for what they are expected to know, understand, and be able to do at the end of each grade level. The draft K-6 curriculum was drafted using the Draft K-12 Social Studies Subject Overview as a guide.

Note

Draft curriculum for grades 7-12 is not included as part of this process. It will be included in the future.

An online feedback form is being used to collect Albertans’ feedback on the proposed key learnings outlined in the Draft K-12 Social Studies Subject Overview. Alberta Education will consider all feedback to further refine the new draft K-6 social studies curriculum before it is released for optional classroom piloting during the 2024-2025 school year.

Transportation Update

Beginning March 20, there will be an additional bus providing services to our school. This brings the total buses servicing Sibylla Kiddle School to four and adds to the busy street out front of the school. We have had to extend the bus zone to accommodate the four buses. Please be mindful of signs.

With this addition, we are reminding parents of the importance of not stopping in front of the school to drop off students in the morning. With the weather hopefully continuing to become warmer, now is a great time to start walking or riding to school.

School Council and Parent Society Notes

Our next School Council and Parent Society Meeting will take place on Thursday, April 4 at 6:30pm in the Learning Commons. All are welcome!

Watch for the Spring Newsletter coming home with your child at the beginning of April.
