“The child within us is what keeps us curious, fearless, and full of wonder. Never let them fade away.”
A child’s sense of wonder is a remarkable and precious commodity. They see the world around them as an endless place for exploration, questioning all along the way. The fascination of a child gazing at a tiny insect crawling through the grass, or the changing clouds floating aimlessly in the sky, - wonder is a quality linked to innocence and an openness about our world.
While walking through the hallways of Sibylla Kiddle School, I am often greeted by wonder. Grade five students discussing their recent walk down to the coulee, grade one students mixing solutions and chipping away at the snow and ice to uncover a surprise and grade two students enthralled while watching videos on animals from Canada, eager to share their new knowledge! Each day, we work to foster and build our student’s sense of wonder, to encourage them to ask questions about the world around them and to continue to be curious.
We can all remind ourselves that we can slow down, embrace nature, take new pathways, and open ourselves up to wonder. How can you and your family find times to be curious and ask questions together? May we never lose our sense of wonder.
Sincerely,
Lisa Patten
