Principal’s Message |

Remembering

Veterans Food Drive |

Sibylla Kiddle (who our school is named after) consistently gave back to her community. She would bake cookies for sick children, knit clothing for others, and even performed eye exams for kindergarten children.

At Sibylla Kiddle School, we also value the importance of empathy, community awareness, kindness and community service. In the upcoming weeks around Remembrance Day, our school has organized a food drive for The Veterans Food Bank of Calgary. From November 1 – 8, non-perishable food items will be collected in our classrooms to be donated to this food bank. Virtually any food item that is sold in a jar, can or box is acceptable. Commonly requested items include; canned meats (just not Spam), fruits, tomatoes, pasta, rice and cereal.

Thank you for your support of our students in their efforts to make a difference in the lives of others.

Traffic Safety and Parking |

This week, Calgary Police Service and Parking Enforcement was present at Sibylla Kiddle School helping to educate families on safe and legal parking practices around the school. They shared some of the most common violations that are occurring, along with the fines for continued offences.

Section 3(1)(k) - Stopping or Parking where prohibited by traffic control device.

• Requires signage, which is either a letter P or a stop sign with a red circle and slash through it.
• No stopping means no stopping at all, including to drop off or pick up passengers/children
• The Signage out front permits school buses to use the zone but not regular traffic.
• Can have vehicles seized under this section
• Subject to a fine of 68 dollars, with early pay options.

Section 3(1)(L) - Roadway side of another vehicle ("double parking")

• Most notable in the cul-de-sac beside the school
• Means vehicles may not park away from the curb (think center of the cul-de-sac, making it a parking lot)
• Is essential to allow safe flow of traffic/ emergency vehicle access.
• May cause pedestrian accidents due to volume and much shorter sight lines.
• Vehicles may be seized, and are subject of a fine of 68 dollars, with early payment options.

Section 3(1)(H) - within 5 meters of a marked crosswalk

• Vehicles may not for any reason stop or park within 5 meters of either side of a marked crosswalk
• Cannot stop to do drop offs or pick ups.
• Causes congestion and sightline issues that may cause pedestrian collisions
• Subject to a fine of 68 dollars with early payment options
• Unoccupied vehicles WILL be seized.

Section 3(1)(F) - stop or park within 5 meters of a fire hydrant

• keeps hydrants clear for emergency use
• Cannot stop or park within 5 meters for any purpose including picking up or dropping off passengers
• Subject to a fine of 68 dollars, and possible seizure of vehicle.

We want to continue to remind families to follow parking and traffic safety rules to keep our community safe. Please do not speed and make U-turns in our school zone. Both are illegal and unsafe.

More Than a Ticket |

We would like to share an opportunity for students and families to attend events. Kids Up Front offers Calgary students and their families' various opportunities to attend sports games, concerts and other events through the More Than A Ticket program. This program supports students and families, who may not have access to ticketed events, enjoy exciting concerts, performances and sports games throughout the year.

School Council/Parent Society Notes |

Please note: Due to a shipping change, we have had to change Big Box order pick up date to Wednesday, November 8 from 2:30- 5:30.
Please use the front doors of the school to come and collect your Big Box orders.

We are looking for more volunteers to support our fun lunches days. We are hoping for volunteers who can stay over the lunch hour to support with delivery, hand-out and clean-up in classrooms. If you are interested in volunteering for fun lunch, please use the sign-up genius link below.
