Principal’s Message|
"Joy is your home. Other emotions are places to visit. After Visiting these places, come back to your home.”
Gurdeep Pandher
This week Sibylla Kiddle was full of joy. Walking around classrooms, it was easy to see the joyful smiles of classmates sharing Valentines cards with one another. We all watched with joy as our kindergarten students shared their messages of community and kindness at their Kindergarten Celebration of Learning. It is during these times that we can feel the true power of joy. According to the Merriam-Webster dictionary, joy is defined as “a feeling of great pleasure or happiness that comes from success, good fortune, or a sense of well-being". This is one of our largest goals as a learning community - helping students to feel happiness and pleasure being at school. Each day, our staff works together to build and strength our students’ well-being.
This week’s quote comes from Gurdeep Pandher. You may have seen him on TikTok or Instagram sharing his message of Joy, light, and positivity. In a post earlier this month on Instagram Gurdeep talked about beginning writing his first book and this is the quote to start it off with. Gurdeep is a Yukon based Bhangra artist and educator who brings people together to promote inclusivity, joy, hope and positivity to others. Gurdeep lives in a small cabin in the Yukon. You can find him on Instagram @gurdeeppander
How will you spread joy this Family Day weekend? How will you and your family find joy in the activities you do?
Jump Rope for Heart Update|
Thank you, Sibylla Kiddle families! Because of your outreach and generosity, our school was able to raise over $4000! We doubled our goal of $2000. We were in the top 5 fundraising schools for Jump Rope for Heart in Canada. The donations raised help fund life-saving research, education, and other Heart & Stroke initiatives. We are so proud of our school. Way to go everyone!
Please note, you should be receiving an email from Heart & Stroke to redeem your child’s Thank You gift card if they qualified.
Pink Shirt Day|

The Pink Shirt Day Story
In 2007, Berwick Nova Scotia, after a new student at their school was bullied for wearing a pink shirt, two grade 12 students bought 50 pink shirts and encouraged their classmates to wear pink. The next day they went to distribute the shirts and to their surprise, most of the students arrived wearing pink! With that the act of kindness, Pink Shirt Day was born. In recognition of the Berwick event, Nova Scotia proclaimed the second Thursday of September “Stand Up Against Bullying Day.” In 2008, British Columbia proclaimed February 27th to be the provincial anti-bullying day, and the movement has continued to grow. In 2012, the United Nations declared May 4 as Anti-Bullying Day, and now the last Wednesday each February is Canada’s national Pink Shirt/anti-bullying day. Many countries now recognize specific days for raising awareness about the prevention of bullying and promoting kindness and inclusion. In Canada, many students have heard the Pink Shirt Day message from kindergarten through to their high school graduation. The movement continues to grow.
Volunteer Applications Available Through School Engage|
Starting on Friday, Feb. 9, parents, and guardians can register to volunteer online in the SchoolEngage tab of their MyCBE account. Once volunteers have created an account they can request and receive their volunteer letter required to obtain their police security clearance. Schools will continue to follow the process for generating letters. There are no changes, at this time, to the ePIC application and payment process, currently outlined on the CBE Volunteer InSite page and managed by Calgary Police Service. Once volunteers have their police information check and vulnerable sector clearance document (PIC VS), it can be uploaded and shared directly with the school through the SchoolEngage account. Schools and volunteers can see their application status and if more information is required by the school to complete the process to volunteer.
