“There is virtue in work and there is virtue in rest.

Use both and never overlook either.”

(Alan Cohen)

It has been a little over two months since we began our learning journey for the 2023-2024 school year. During that time, there have been many wonderful opportunities for new friendships, new challenges, new learning and new adventures. While spending time in classrooms, I have seen creative science experiments, students sharing the joy of reading, interesting written pieces and students working together to support one another to succeed. This week, during our Remembrance Day Assembly, our learning community was able to witness firsthand how engaged in their learning students have been. While listening to our grade 5 students share their reflections and understanding of this important day, we were reminded of how our learning is connected to events in our everyday lives.

This year, our school calendar includes a fall break. While we enjoy each day that our students spend learning with us, we also recognize the value of having the time to pauseRest is so important for both physical and mental health. Opportunities to recharge, relax and engage in activities that we love are good for the soul. Whether you take a mini vacationhead out for a crisp walk, spend time at a sporting event, read a good book or simply have quiet time for yourselfa break is both important and essential for us all.

However your family is spending this fall break, we hope that you can find time to rest, relax and be together. We look forward to seeing all our students back at school on Wednesday, November 15.

Sincerely,

Lisa Patten
