“Patience attracts happiness; it brings near that which is far.”
(Swahili Proverb)
Over the past few weeks, the act of patience has been evident in our school in a variety of ways. Our kindergarten students demonstrated patience as they worked through feedback loops to improve their artwork. Each one listened to suggestions from teachers and peers and then diligently made changes that created a polished product.
While at the Cranston Ridge, grade three students recognized the power of patience as they sat quietly sketching their surroundings. Their reward was a group of deer calmly grazing in the fields nearby.
As we approach our Winter Celebration, our Kindergarten to grade 2 students are patiently practicing their songs, creating artwork and engaging in poetry to share and celebrate their learning. Although it may seem they have been practicing forever, their patience will pay off as they stand to perform on Thursday evening.
Practicing patience is not always easy, but the result is worth the work. Patience can help us achieve our goals and maintain a more positive outlook on life. This year, through the lens of well-being, students will develop their social emotional learning through strengthening their self-awareness, relationship skills and decision-making skills. Students will engage with feedback that enables them to build independence, collaboration, resiliency and risk-taking. Tasks that encourage patience will support students in these goals. It is a good reminder to us all that practicing patience brings out the best in us.
Sincerely,
Lisa Patten
