“Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.”

(Ryunosuke Satoro)

Recently, while in a grade two classroom, I witnessed the power of partnerships as a group of students worked together to design a plasticine valley that allowed a river to flow down it. In this partnership, students were able to modify and adjust their design to get the water moving smoothly. It was through their collaboration that the task was accomplished, building on each other’s strengths and ideas to build the best model.

In schools, we have many partnerships. Students working with one another, teachers collaboratively planning together and staff engaging with small groups of students. All these partnerships allow us to gain experience, expertise and knowledge from others. A good partnership gives us the opportunity to see different perspectives and the chance to tackle problems in a new way.

One of the meaningful partnerships we have at Sibylla Kiddle is the one between home and school. Families and staff working together to build relationships set the conditions for the success of all our students. School conferences are one of the many ways that we work together to support students. Next week, we welcome families into conversations regarding their child(ren)s learning, providing an opportunity to work together on their next best steps.

Thank you for continuing to partner with us to build a thriving learning community. Together, we are an ocean.

Sincerely,

Lisa Patten
