Principal Update
Sibylla Kiddle School Families,
It’s been a long time since I went out into a field, laid on my back and stared up at the clouds. If you’ve ever done this, you know your brain starts creating images out of the clouds. As I write this, looking out my office window, the clouds are perfect for this activity. There is endless blue Alberta sky with puffy floaters going through the air. I see an otter floating down a river, a slug dragging it’s body through a garden and the car Lightning McQueen drifting through a corner on a race track.
Children, especially younger children, are the experts on imagination. Point a cloud out to them and most of the time they will instantaneously tell you what it looks like. The older we get, we seem to either have diminished imaginations or we are more reserved about sharing our inner creativity.
Fostering your child’s imagination has immense benefits for brain development. It allows them to be creative by brainstorming possibilities of what can be. Language development is enhanced through allowing them to be oral story tellers and executive functioning skills such as sustained attention, organization and memory recall are all encouraged.
Imagination isn’t limited to cloud watching. Fostering this skill in your child just takes a little imagination (I couldn’t help putting that one in here). Build forts, dress up, come up with alternative endings to a story, be explorers in the forest or play charades. Whatever your child comes up with, go with it. Affirm the creativity, ask questions of curiosity and maybe offer some of your own creative prospectives. You just might end up meeting that friendly dragon who lives in that castle just down the street.

Sibylla Kiddle Day
We want to remind our families that Monday, May 25 is Sibylla Kiddle Day. It’s a day where we honor our school’s namesake by celebrating her birthday. With gratitude to our school council and one of our parents, students will be given a cookie at the end of the day to celebrate Sibylla Kiddle’s birthday. The cookie will be individually packaged with an ingredient list printed on it.
Monday will also be the last day we are accepting birthday party donations for the Calgary Food Bank. Thank you to those of you who have donated already. We are collecting dry cake mixes, prepackaged frosting/icing, new gift bags and party supplies such as balloons, banners and candles. If you can contribute in some way, we would appreciate it. Please note, we are NOT collecting gifts or toys, just party-based supplies.
Finally, students are encouraged to wear either their school swag or our school colours (shades of green) on this day.
Aloha Dance Volunteers
The school council is looking for volunteers to support the upcoming Aloha Dance. If can you help out, please visit their sign-up page.
Footwear – Physical Education
As we start engaging in outdoor Physical Education activities, we would like to remind families of the importance of appropriate footwear for safety, comfort, and active participation. Students are encouraged to wear closed-toe running or athletic shoes with good grip and support, suitable for running, games, and outdoor movement activities. Proper footwear helps reduce the risk of slips, falls, and injuries while allowing students to fully participate in Physical Education classes. Thank you for your support in helping students come prepared and ready to participate safely each day.
Sunscreen
As you know, the weather is starting to improve and warmer days are near. This is the time of year when we see an increase in sunscreen at school. This is great, as students are protecting their skin. Please note, if students are using a spray, they should be applying it outside. Our staff is unable to apply lotion or sprays; students will need to put it on themselves.
